As reported by Guidelive’s Tiney Ricciardi…
According to an announcement Tuesday, Peticolas will offer three of its most popular beers — Velvet Hammer imperial red ale, Golden Opportunity kolsch-style ale, and Sit Down Or I’ll Sit You Down imperial IPA — in four-packs of 16-ounce cans to be sold exclusively from its taproom in the Design District. Also starting Sept. 1, the brewery will begin selling growlers and crowlers of draft beer to-go.
The brewery’s recipes have only previously been available on draft. That made Peticolas beer especially coveted since drinkers couldn’t enjoy it at home unless they purchased it at a growler bar.
Founder Michael Peticolas told GuideLive in 2016 that the decision not to package was in an effort to maintain his beers’ quality and set himself apart from other breweries.
“We’ve played the long game since opening almost eight years ago. Biding our time awaiting legal changes in Texas that will allow us to grow operations in our own unique and unconventional way,” Peticolas said in Tuesday’s statement. “The passage of beer to-go and other legislation opened the door to plans we’ve had for years. This is just the start and I’m looking forward to the ride.”
Peticolas Brewing Co. will host a party on Sunday, Sept. 1 when beer to-go officially takes effect. According the law, drinkers will be allowed to purchase up to 288 ounces, or one case, of beer per day to take home. We’ll have the details of that and other brewery’s events to celebrate the legislative milestone in the coming weeks.
