WHEREAS, the topic of the most legendary Texan of all time came up over
beers on Lake LBJ; and
WHEREAS, said discussion included the likes of Lyndon B. Johnson, Nolan
Ryan, Sam Houston, George W. Bush, Tom Landry, Stone Cold Steve Austin, Earl
Campbell and Matthew McConaughey; and
WHEREAS, none of the aforementioned Texans came anywhere close to
measuring up to the legend that is Willie Nelson; and
WHEREAS, Willie is undoubtedly the Texan most likely to be known or
recognized by any random person asked in Texas, the United States or
anywhere else in the world; and
WHEREAS, Willie’s most legendary Texan status is worthy of celebration
and formal declaration; and
WHEREAS, Willie was born on April 29; now, therefore, be it
PROCLAIMED, That Willie Nelson be deemed the most legendary Texan of
all time; and further
PROCLAIMED, That April 29 be declared WILLIE NELSON DAY from this date
forward into perpetuity.
